The cycle of meetings within the celebration events dedicated to Professor Levan Alexidze’s 95th jubilee was concluded with a meeting with the International Organization for Migration.

Professor Levan Alexidze as an independent member of the European Commission against Racism and Intollerance has contributed to theadvancement of  international legal framework against discrimination and ensuring the respective practices across the continent Europe during 12 years after Georgia joined the Council of Europe.

The Levan Alexidze Foundation provided opportunity to participants from across Georgia to get engaged in the discussions with the leading professionals developing the legal framework and corresponding practices against gender based discrimination and violence against women in Georgia. The Country Representative in Georgia, ad interim for UN Women Dr. Tamar Sabedashvili, the Founder of the Levan Alexidze Foundation Prof. Dr. Marina Meskhi, the Executive Director of Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association Ms Nino Chikhladze, a member of the High Level Advisory Group for Global Study on the Impact of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Ms Julia Kharashvili, Ms Ana Kakushadze and Mr Marc Hulst of IOM, as well as Prof. Dr. Ketevan Khutsishvili held interactive discussions around elimination of gender based discrimination.

The participants received academic and practical information covering gender equality and women’s human rights; international legal mechanisms of ensuring gender equality and the state monitoring systems within the United Nations and Council of Europe; the issue of Women, Peace and Security in the agendas of the United Nations, NATO and the OSCE; gender and migration: contemporary challenges.

The cycle of meetings is a part of the celebration events organized from early 2021 by the Levan Alexidze Foundation dedicated to the 95th jubilee of the merited scientist, professor, and public figure Academician Levan Alexidze. The meetings held during 13-21 March were organized by the Levan Alexidze Foundation, with the support of the USAID and EWMI PROLoG activity, in cooperation with the Training Centre of Justice of Georgia, Georgian-American University, and the TSU Gender and Law Chair.
