Academician Levan Alexidze Foundation Celebrated International Criminal Justice Day

The annual conference of 17 July devoted to international criminal justice day – “Challenges of international criminal justice: 70 years past the Nürnberg principles” – was dedicated to academician Levan Alexidze. Practicing lawyers and members of the academia working both in Georgia and abroad participated in the conference, which was hosted in the form of a webinar.

The head of the field office of the International Criminal Court (“ICC”) in Georgia, representatives of Georgian governmental structures, members of the academia, former practitioners at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia held discussions surrounding the investigation and examination of Georgian situation by the ICC; in terms of modern challenges the discussion also touched upon the issue of reparation of victims in international criminal justice, as well as the effectiveness of ad hoc international criminal tribunals and the challenges they faced; academic and practical discussions were held surrounding the topic of difficulties associated with the interpretation of the “interests of justice”, the problems of accountability of non-State actors at the ICC, as well as the interrelationship of the European Court of Human Rights and the ICC.

On 17 July, with the initiative of academician Levan Alexidze and professor Ketevan Khutsishvili the annual conference is dedicated to the international criminal justice day in Georgia since 2012.
