27 January: International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Levan Alexidze Foundation observers International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust with research and awareness raising activities
The Academician Levan Alexidze Foundation, enduring the tradition of observing International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, established together with Professor Levan Alexidze, dedicated research and awareness raising activities to 27 January.
Academician Levan Alexidze and Professor Ketevan Khutsishvili laid the foundation of addressing this International Day in the prism of International Law in Georgia years ago.
The theme of this year’s remembrance day, chosen by the United Nations is “home and belonging”. Levan Alexidze Foundation, with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, provided opportunity to young researchers interested in studying the issues related to Holocaust.
Research topics include the Holocaust and international response: Jewish refugees and immigration policy during World War II; “the crime of silence”; the Holocaust, or the Nazi “Theory of Survival” and the international response; The Holocaust, Jewish migration and the world’s response to the Holocaust; The problem of migration during Holocaust; Holocaust, as a world tragedy; Holocaust denial in criminal law: legal frameworks in the EU Member States; “Let us remember the Holocaust, reject all attempts to deny it”; The blinking light of Auschwitz; Holocaust – the result of Nazi ideology, etc.
The awareness raising campaign is carried out as a result of cooperation of the Levan Alexidze Foundation, Dean of the Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy School of the Georgian-American University Professor Zaza Rukhadze and Professor Ketevan Khutsishvili, Director of the TSU International Criminal Law Centre, with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.
