The winner of the 2021 Georgian language tournament of the Levan Alexidze Moot Court Competition is announced

On 4-5 December 2021, the Levan Alexidze Foundation and the School of Law, Social Sciences and Diplomacy of the Georgian-American University hosted the semi-final and final rounds of the Georgian language tournament of the Levan Alexidze Moot Court Competition, Edition N2.

The 2021 Edition was held in cooperation with the Training Center of Justice of Georgia, the Public International Law Department of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, and Prof. Dr. Ketevan Khutsishvili, the Head of TSU Gender and Law Research and Training Direction, with the support of the USAID and the EWMI/PROLoG Activity.

Twenty-two teams of undergraduate students from various higher education institutions of Georgia have registered to participate in the Edition N2 of the national competition.

The winner of the 2021 Competition held in the framework of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence as well as the Annual University Human Rights Law Week became a team of students of Tbilisi Free University due to successful pleading of Elene Svanidze and Mzekala Romanadze. At the end of the two rounds of the Moot Court Competition, the jury nominated Tamar Kalandia (TSU) as the best speaker and Tamar Mazanishvili (TSU) as the best participant of the Competition.

Highly qualified jury of the Competition together with other outstanding specialists in the field included representatives of the Georgian-American University, Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Council of Europe Office in Georgia, Human Rights Secretariat, LEPL – Agency for State Care and Assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking.

All students competing in the oral rounds of the Competition qualified for respective certificates; the finalist teams of the competition as well as the best participant and the best speaker qualified for the prize established by Goga Khatiashvili – A Manual for the Fight against Domestic Violence. The winners of the competition were also awarded the right to participate in the Human Rights Weekend organised jointly by the Levan Alexidze Foundation and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the session of which will be held on 10-12 December 2021 in a resort outside Tbilisi.

From the beginning of 2021, the Levan Alexidze Foundation has been dedicating its events that promote human rights and democratic standards to the commemoration of the 95th jubilee of the late Levan Alexidze, a highly respected scientist, professor, public figure, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, founder of the International Law School of Georgia, Chief Adviser to the President of Georgia on International Law Issues, and Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.
